Run. Coed y Brenin Sarn Helen Summer Series
As the clocks go back and the days warm-up (hopefully!), we’re ready to speed things up at Run. Coed y Brenin. To add a bit of spice to the successful Thursday Night Runs the Sarn Helen Summer Series will kick-off in May.
The events will be a completely free to enter time trial on the Sarn Helen Hir (blue route) 5 miler. And to add even more interest to these events the format will be a little different!
A set Thursday of each month of the summer (May, June, July and August) will see a time-trail-style handicap event, whereby each runner will set off at intervals determined by their best time for the Sarn Helen route. This time will be logged at the timed loop on Thursday 2nd of April at 6.30 or anytime thereafter until the 10th of April (via Strava or other online methods).
From here each runner will have a time for the SH trail, and this will determine your start time on the handicap series. Run. Coed y Brenin’s Matt Ward explains further:
“The Summer Series should be a great addition to all that we offer the trail runner here at Coed y Brenin. Everything we do here is aimed at getting more participation, whether in a race format or simply getting out there and enjoying this great part of the world and getting more people running on trails.
“The Series should be pretty straightforward and be a really fun way for some mid-week trail running competition throughout the summer months. The idea is that the runner with the slowest time for their trial run will go first, the fastest last, and everyone at the intervals in between they have set for the trial event.
“In theory people should be catching each other throughout the run with everyone arriving back within a few minutes of each other. The only stipulation is that runners ‘sign on’ at each event, basically a disclaimer and way of us making sure all of the runners are accounted for on the night.
“The emphasis is on fun, personal challenges, getting a bit of speed into the legs and hopefully everyone improving as the series goes on – and it’s all free! There will be a few fun prizes at the end of the series for such thing as the most improved time etc. and we’ll finish it all off with a barbecue and a few celebratory drinks in August.”
Dates for the Sarn Helen Summer Series free events are May 21st, June 11th, July 16th and August 20th, which also includes the end of Series BBQ (£5 per person) and presentation.
Runners wishing to get involved should come along to the Thursday April 2nd Sarn Helen Time Trial to set their time – or inform Matt Ward (firstname.lastname@example.org) of their interest before 10th April, with their logged time.
